海の近いケント州アップルドアの、標高の低いなだらかな斜面に居を構え、畑は全て南向きです。2011年のブラン・ド・ブランは、シャルドネから作ったイングリッシュ・スパークリングがいかに素晴らしいかを教えてくれます。リンゴとレモンの味わいに、期待を裏切らないミネラリティ。爽やかな酸のおかげで、飲み飽きることをしりません。3年もの間たっぷり澱と共に寝かせ、さらに瓶熟を重ねることで、複雑味とミッドパレットの芳醇な味わいと旨味が生まれています。何よりもクオリティの要となっているのは、その傑出したバランスでしょう。全ての要素があるべき場所に存在する、実に心地のよい飲み口です。

Gusbourne Estate has become a standard-bearer of high quality English sparkling and still wines. The estate sits on the low slopes of the ancient Kentish escarpment at Appledore, consisting exclusively of south-facing slopes. This, their Blanc de Blancs, proves how good 100 percent Chardonnay sparkling wines can be in England. It has apple and lemon citrus, that elusive “minerality” which should be a hallmark of such sparklers, and the refreshing acidity that makes you come back for more. A dash of complexity and mid-palate richness and leesiness, down to a generous three years on lees and subsequent bottle age, completes the picture. But the quality clincher is the balance ? all is in place for very agreeable drinking.
